That _was it. I didn't realise that you had to click and view the messages to dismiss them. thanks David

hi James, I tried clicking on the exclamation marks in the Activity window. A little message describing the problem came up, which I ok'ed. Shortly after that the error message faded out. I'll see if it's still gone tomorrow (the Activity was programmed for the middle of the night), and let you know. David

hi , I had a series of actions set up to backup my whole laptop to an external drive attached to a Mac Mini on my Airport network. For whatever reason, it never completed any of the actions, and so I decided to give up on that until I get a Time Capsule (which hopefully _will work!). So I deleted the actions in the QRecall window on my laptop (MacBookPro). But every morning I find the QRecall Activity monitor up on my laptop, with the deleted Compact and Merge actions shown (Stopping). How do I make these go away! And should I have removed the Actions in a different way? thanks David

Ok, that makes sense. I used to have a program that did this, and it saved my bacon after I'd made some changes to a software patch that totally broke the thing. Unfortunately, that particular app had a number of issues (it crashed every time I closed down the computer for one), so I don't use it any more. It'll be nice to be able to do this with QRecall. thanks David

OH good. Hopefully it's moving rapidly up the queue Another way to do it would be to have a particular action "turn on"only when the programme that creates the files is active and/or "in front", as you're only going to want to back up changes when you're working on something. Would that be an easier way to do this?

Duh. Just found the period drop down menu in the schedule part of the New Action dialogue. So that answers the first part of the question. I'd still like t know what you think about monitoring specific groups of files for saved changes as a capture criteria. David

Can I create a backup of a specific folder every, say, 30 minutes. Sometimes when I'm working on certain files I "break" the file so that it no longer works. This could happen at any point during a working session, but the problem might not emerge until I've made several changes. It would be useful to capture the files every 30 minutes so that I can roll back to a working version of the file. Actually, the best thing would be if QRecall monitored specific files/folders, and re-captured whenever a new version f the file/folder was saved. Are either of these action possible currently? thanks David

Thanks - that's what I needed to know. David

Hi, I'm pretty much convinced that QRecall is going to be a better investment for me than Time Machine, so now all I need todo is to figure how how many keys to purchase. I have 3 Macs - in my studio I have my main work machine (MacBook Pro) and a Mini for email and other officey kind of stuff. Then I also have a G4 iMac downstairs that my wife mainly uses. All on an Airport Express network. The mini and the iMac are on OSX10.5, the laptop is on 10.4. But the final bit of audio software that I've been waiting on is now 10.5 compatible, so I'm planning on installing 10.5 on the laptop this weekend. If I understand correctly, a single key would allow me to back up all 3 machines to their own individual archives. What is the advantage of having 3 keys and a single "accessible to all machines" archive? thanks David
