James Bucanek wrote:Adam, The error you're getting is, I believe, a bug in Mountain Lion's implementation of FSCopyObj, the core library function that copies files. It's not "technically" a bug, because Apple has deprecated the core library file services API in Mountain Lion, which means that they are no longer maintaining or supporting those functions. The problem is that after FSCopyObj has duplicated a file, it supposed to return a reference to the new (duplicate) file. On your new volume, that reference is invalid for some reason and QRecall can't open the file it just duplicated. (This is not a new bug; both Leopard and AppleShare file servers, which include airport base stations, have a similar bug.) Many moons ago I cobbled together a workaround that duplicates the file using other means. If you're interested in trying that code, let me know and I'll build a special version of QRecall 1.2.1 that doesn't use FSCopyObj. I'm in the process of rewriting all of the low-level file functions to use the (ancient, but now official) BSD API for all filesystem services. If all goes well, a beta that uses the new filesystem APIs will be available for testing soon.
Any idea when the beta will be ready? In the meantime, i'll use other applications for backups, but I sure do miss QRecall...

So I transferred my files off of the drive to another HD. I formatted the drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Encrypted) and brought the files back over, including my qrecall archive. Now I'm getting an error from the Qrecall log: "Failed: cannot convert FSRef to path" "Error: no such volume" "OSErrName: nsvErr" "OSErr: -35" I've updated all the actions to the new path of the archive and the "captured item" and still no luck.

Is this possible on a RAID volume? Yesterday, I had a friend who's home was broken into. He had a set up similar to mine (2 RAID HD) sitting on his desk that were stolen. Fortunately, he had an encrypted spares bundle for his personal documents. I'm wondering if I can do the whole volume and more or less use the drive like normal. But once it's unplugged, the data is protected until the password is entered. Any thoughts?

One more question... I have another hard drive (we'll call it HD3) that is the backup to the backup... I want to copy my archive over to HD3 a few times a week. It seems a little dangerous to make an archive of an archive, but what do you recommend? I use Chronosync a lot and can have my archive sync over, but I'd hate for it to sync that large file over and over. Is it possible to have Chronosync "dissect" the archive and see whats changed? What do you recommend? Thanks James.

One more question.... I've used QRecall for a while on my iMac. Is there anyway to continue to use that archive? Or should I just create a new archive? Much of my files and folders were a copy over onto the new Mac Mini. It would be good cool if I could continue to add to the archive and just add the new actions for what we discussed.

I've recently purchased a new mac mini with a 256 GB solid state drive. I'd like to keep that drive as clean as possible and only have applications, system files, etc. No music or media. For all the other files, I've purchased a 4TB drive that I've set to Raid 0 for speed. I also bought a 3TB drive that I plan to use a backup for selected files on my raid drive. I was thinking of partitioning my 3TB drive into 2 sections (1) being 256GB and (1) being the rest of the HD and having SuperDuper create a clone of my mac mini drive on the 256GB drive. For the bigger partition I was thinking of having QRecall backup my user folder and selected folders on my Raid drive (media, documents, etc.) I'm looking for suggestions and opinions on this setup. Also, should I use 2 separate archives, 1 for my raid drive and 1 for my users folder? Thanks.

I'm tryings to recall some files that are in my Application Support folder, but I can not seem to locate the Library folder within my Qrecall archive. I'm using Lion 10.7.2. Any ideas? Thanks.

Not sure if this is possible, but today I was messing around in my Library folder, erasing things I think that are useless (I know that I should leave it alone...) I was thinking how nice it would have been to be able to right-click on the folder in finder and be able to "quick capture" the folder into my QRecall archive. For someone like me, who only uses one archive, I believe it would be very nice and handy feature. Although, I'm sure there are complications that I'm not thinking of... Regardless, I'm still a huge fan on QRecall.

I have a 2TB external HD as my recovery drive. I partitioned this drive into (2) sections with 1TB each. Would there be any problem using QRecall on 1 section and Time Machine on the other? Would there be any potential issues? Perhaps I'm being a little too cautious, also...

James Bucanek wrote:Adam, Good suggestion. I am adding a place in the interface where this would fit perfectly.
Sounds great James! I look forward to the new update.

I like to work most of my day in a distraction free environment. While QRecall activity monitor is very small, neat, unobtrusive -- I'd like to have the ability to select which actions display themselves to me and which ones won't. My folders that backup hourly, I'd like to turn the "HUD" off -- while my daily system backup, I'd like to keep on.

Would you mind going through your process for installing your slim OS on a USB drive? I know how to install the OS on the drive itself, but what do you do after that? You said you erase everything, but terminal and disk utility. Do you literally just go through the application folder and delete everything? Do you delete more? Do you install all the updates Apple puts out for the OS? I want to work on this tomorrow and just wanted some guidance... Thanks for the help again.
